I am surprised by ourselves that we haven’t posted anything relating to the 90s sensational arcade game Metal Slug. Anyhoo, this is going to be the first. Chinese brick-build toy set maker, Pantasy has secured the license to produce brick-built sets for the side-scrolling shooter arcade game.
The toymaker has not one, not two but three sets to offer to fans. All three sets are based on Metal Slug 3 which was released in 2000 for the Neo-Geo MVS arcade platform as the sequel to, well, Metal Slug 2 (or Metal Slug X as it was known in some regions).
Pantasy Metal Slug Series 3 include the iconic Chibi-style tank SV-001TYPE-R, the Chibi-style bubble canopy helicopter, and a Neogeo arcade machine, complete with a joystick and buttons, a coin slot, and a “screen” with a brick-brick scene from the game featuring the SV-001 tank.
The Pantasy Metal Slug 3 Series SV-001TYPE-R 86232 has 410 pieces and measures 21.8 x 9.7 x 12.5 cm when completed. It comes with the iconic warhead with flame effect part, and a transparent buildable stand to suspend it midair to play out the launched projectile scene.
The Pantasy Metal Slug 3 Series Helicopter 86233 lets you recreate the iconic bubble canopy attack helicopter from the game with 344 pieces. When completed, it measures 28.1 x 11.2 x 17.4 cm.
The holy grail of the three is, of course, the Pantasy Metal Slug 3 Series Neogeo 86231. It packs a cool 1,290 pieces that will let you recreate the arcade machine with a working coin slot and a buildable coin and features some mechanical gimmicks. When completed, the arcade measures 24 x 24 x 17 cm.
All three sets come presented in a collectible box, and an “aesthetic instruction manual”. All three sets are recommended for ages 6 and up.
If you are interested, the Pantasy Metal Slug Series 3 SV-001TYPE-R 86232 and the Pantasy Metal Slug 3 Series Helicopter 86233 can be had for US$34.99 and US$36.99, respectively, while the Pantasy Metal Slug 3 Series Neogeo 86231 is available for US$119.99.
