Not only Formula E racing is an expensive endeavor. A finely crafted scale model of the Formula E GEN3 race car loaded with authentic details does not come cheap either. If you are thinking that you can probably splurge a few hundred for one, well, you’d be wrong – especially if you want an exquisite piece like the newly announced Amalgam Collection Formula E GEN3 1:8 Scale Model.
Limited to just 199 pieces worldwide, the Amalgam Collection Formula E GEN3 1:8 Scale Model is rocking the Season 9 livery of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. It is so detailed that you’d be forgiven to think that you are looking at photos of a real race car.
Here’s something about the GEN3 for the benefit of those who don’t know:
“The future of all-electric high-performance motorsport, the GEN3 platform was developed by engineers and sustainability experts at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Formula E. Officially unveiled at the Yacht Club de Monaco in April 2022, the GEN3 was designed to show the world that high performance, efficiency and sustainability can powerfully co-exist without compromise, pioneering cutting-edge technologies that will make the transfer from race to road. It is the fastest Formula E car yet with a top speed over 200 mph (322 kph) and up to 350kW of power (470 bhp), as well as the most efficient formula racing car ever with more than 40% of the energy used within a race produced by regenerative braking. Every aspect of GEN3 production has been rethought, redesigned and rebuilt to ensure the car sets the benchmark for high-performance, sustainable racing without compromise.”
Each model is hand-built and assembled by a small team of craftsmen using the finest quality materials, with each model boasting thousands of precisely engineered parts, including castings, photo-etching, and CNC-machined metal components.
The model is built using the original CAD designs and the paint codes supplied by Formula E. All told, over 2,500 hours were devoted to the development of the model, and more than 250 hours were used to build each model. The model measures over 62 cm (24 inches) long and over 21 cm (8 inches) wide.
The Amalgam Collection Formula E GEN3 1:8 Scale Model is available to buy for a pretty damn audacious US$12,310. That’s not a typo. That’s twelve thousand three hundred and ten dollars.
