Japanese snack maker Calbee has announced its second collaboration with the upcoming Shin Kamen Rider movie. The snack is also potato-based but this time, it is based on the 1971 Kamen Rider Snack.
The new Calbee Shin Kamen Rider Snack is made using the recipe at the time and the shape of the snack isn’t your usual potato chips either; each chip has a flower shape and it is said to taste “slightly sweet” with a “nostalgic taste of honey.”
Two packaging designs are available, both depicting Kamen Rider on his trusty superhero two-wheeler. However, one of the packagings is a reboot of the 1971’s design but updated with, I believe, the Shin Kamen Rider and an updated look motorcycle illustrated by Masato Hayase of Ishimori Productions.
The latter is the variant collectors and super fans will want to pick because this Shin Kamen Rider Snack comes as a bundle of 3 packs (30g ea.) along with 48 collectible cards (known as Shin Kamen Rider Chips cards) and an original card album to store and appreciate the cards. The cards feature photos taken during the filming of the movie.
The first variant called Shin Kamen Rider Chips shares a similar illustration style as the first wave of chips introduced last year, and it does come with 2 cards.
Each pack of the Shin Kamen Rider Chips is 22g and sells for around 2,904 yen (about US$22) for a 24-pack. If lady luck is with you, you may even receive a cardholder with the Shin Kamen Rider Chips.
The super collectible Shin Kamen Rider Snack, on the other hand, sells for 5,500 yen (around US$42). The Shin Kamen Rider Snack has limited sets to go around and so if it is sold out, it is sold out.
