It is not new to see video games get turned into movies but soon there’s a movie inspired by a game that you never thought would make a movie material and that video game is, believe it or not, GRAN TURISMO. That’s right. There’s going to be a movie on the real racing simulator.
Unlike other video game-inspired movies like Uncharted or Super Marios Bros., there is no character from the GT video game. Instead, the movie is based on the gamers of the video game, GRAN TURISMO:
“Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.”
So, yeah, it is about one talented dude who rose to fame to enjoy the glitz and glamor of an actual race car driver. And mind you though. This isn’t some indie film with nobody in it; Sony Pictures Entertainment is behind (but, of course), and it is directed by Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie, Elysium) and stars David Harbour (Hellboy, Black Widow, Stranger Things), Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Carnival Row), Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner (Spice Girl!), and Djimon Hounsou (Constantine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Shazam!).
The GRAN TURISMO will hit theaters on August 11, 2023.
