Sony created a whole new category of cameras dedicated to vlogging with the ZV-1. It is a mildly attractive proposition only to be marred by the fact that any camera or phone could do the job, which makes the asking price of US$800 a bit much. If the price had stopped you from committing to a Vlog-dedicated camera, Sony has a new one that is much more affordable. Folks, meet the new Sony ZV-1F, a small vlogging camera that should be a good fit for beginners or anyone with a budget constraint.
The new Sony ZV-1F Vlogging Camera is similarly sized to last year’s model at 4 1/4 x 2 3/8 x 1 7/8 inches (105.5 x 60 x 46.4 mm) but it is a little lighter 9.1oz (256g) versus the ZV-1’s 10.4oz (294g).
The camera is armed with a 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS sensor with effective pixels of about 20.1 MP, paired with a ZEISS Tessar T* Lens featuring a fixed ultra-wide-angle 20 mm f/2 prime lens.
The camera is capable of shooting 4K/30p video or FHD at 120p, and it can do 5x in slow-motion or 60x for hyper-lapse content.
Key features include background bokeh and Face-priority AE, skin tone optimization, high precision focusing and Eye AF (for both humans and animals), Active Mode (electronic) image stabilization for video recording, Creative Look presets Product Showcase Setting for product reviews, 3-capsule mic and wind screen for clear voice recording, and an enhanced touchscreen features with Touch Zoom and Step Zoom.
The new Sony ZV-1F Vlogging Camera will be available later this month for US$499.99, which is about 300 less than the ZV-1 when it was first released.
If anyone’s down, Sony Electronics is taking pre-orders.
