What you see here is the Mercedes-AMG GT3, a racecar that will be used by Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing at the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) which will be held this weekend (May 13-15) at Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst.
The legendary Bathurst 12 Hour was dropped from the calendar in 2021 due to the travel restrictions and is now returning to the New South Wales race track. The track, which is 6.2 kilometers (3.9 miles) long, has been a regular fixture in IGTC since 2016.
Fielding the race for 2022 are no less than 20 cars. Of which, six of them are Mercedes-AMG GT3s run by six different customer sports teams. The teams include Mercedes-AMG Team Craft Bamboo Racing, Nineteen Corporation Pty Ltd, RAM Motorsport, SunEnergy1 Racing, Triple Eight Race Engineering, and Valmont Racing.
Mercedes–AMG‘s presence is not limited to the Customer Racing teams’ race cars. It is also the official Safety Car. In fact, since 2015, a safety car from Affalterbach has been leading on the track of the Bathurst 12 Hour for the formation lap. For this year, the current Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ will serve as the safety car again.
The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ is actually super cool and super quick ride money can buy.
Armed with an updated exterior design with a host of AMG-specific features, the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ is the top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG E-class sedan powered 4.0L V8 Biturbo engine that produces a cool 612 horsepower and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, affording it with a century sprint time of mere 3.4 seconds.
