Remember the Polestar Precept concept car from 2020? Well, it has evolved into this: the Polestar 5 Electric 4-door GT. A development prototype of the Polestar 5, which is described as a high-performance electric 4-door GT with proper sports car credentials, was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (June 23-26).
The Polestar 5 is a result of the teamwork of Polestar UK and Polestar Sweden. The former worked on the new mechanical platform to design and developed a unique bonded aluminum chassis while the latter worked on a new top-of-the-line electric powertrain.
The EV features an 800-volt architecture and a new rear electric motor, which combined with a high-output front electric motor, delivers a cool 884 HP and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque.
The Polestar 5 Electric 4-door GT is not at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for show; it will run up the iconic Goodwood hill twice daily during the event in the “First Glance” group.
The Polestar 5 is the third of the three new EVs expected to be launched by the Swedish automaker in the coming three years, following the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 electric SUVs. The car is planned for launch in 2024. Meanwhile, you can learn how the Precept concept gets turned into the Polestar 5 in a YouTube documentary series.
