Meet The First-ever Ford Mustang GTD

Call me old school but I think it is nice to know that there are still automobile makers who still give thought to the good’ol internal combustion engine performance car. One such automaker is Ford. And the latest ICE performance car the blue oval marque has to offer this: the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD.

2025 Ford Mustang GTD

It is the first-ever Ford Mustang GTD, a limited-edition, ultra-high-performance street-legal performance car designed and engineered with Multimatic. The new Ford Mustang GTD is inspired by the Mustang GT3 that will be competing in Le Mans next year which means it is a bona fide supercar but with an unmistakable muscle car silhouette.

It is built to be the quickest road-going Mustang ever and to around track faster. And it has more technology than the race cars it is based on – even including technology that would be illegal in racing, such as the hydraulically controlled front flaps to manage airflow for aerodynamic balance in coordination with the active rear wing, which is part of an optional aero package available to this model.

Speaking of aero… it, as mentioned, has active aerodynamics – in addition to its purposefully sculpted, wide body. Also optionally available with an aero package is a comprehensive underbody aerodynamic tray in carbon fiber.

This car has an abundance of carbon fiber panels to keep the weight down, lower the CG, and improve responsiveness. The fenders, hood, trunk lid, door sills, front splitter, rear diffuser, and roof are all carbon fiber. If those aren’t enough, it has optional carbon fiber front and rear fascias too.

The new 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is powered by a supercharged 5.2L V8 with dual air inlets that will produce an estimated 800 ponies and has a 7,500 RPM redline. It further boasts the first dry-sump engine oil system to be fitted to a road-going Mustang and titanium active valve exhaust system.

It has a pretty mind-blowing suspension setup that comprises advanced dual ride height short-long arm front for enhanced lateral stiffness and improved kinematics and multi-link rear suspension featuring an integral link pushrod and rocker arm architecture with horizontal cross pattern mounted shock absorbers and motorsport-style tubular frame.

This semi-active suspension is in the trunk alongside the hydraulic control system, and a transaxle cooling system that uses a race-inspired cover. A cover replaces the trunk lid and includes a pair of air scoops to funnel air off the back glass into the area and through the heat exchangers.

Other notables include Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transaxle, a lightweight carbon fiber driveshaft, Variable Track Control in track mode, 20-inch magnesium wheels wrapped in 325 mm front and 345 mm rear tires, deleted rear seat to reduce weight and to provide cargo space, and a cockpit featuring premium materials including Miko suede and leather, along with carbon fiber, digital displays, RECARO seats, with available 3D printed titanium paddle shifters, rotary dial shifter, and serial plate all made from retired Lockheed Martin F-22 titanium parts.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will be produced in limited numbers, and offered for sale in late 2024/early 2025 with a starting price of around US$300,000. It is not clear if the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will be offered outside of the U.S.A. Meanwhile, you can pick up more information about this wild ride HERE.
