Last year, Razer and Italian luxury watchmaker Officine Panerai partnered to preserve the oceans. Over the last year, the two companies have invested in research to support marine species focusing on manta rays but this year, the two have a product: a luxury watch.
Announced at this year’s RazerCon 2022 is the Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition, a super cool timepiece you never imagine Panerai to offer. As the name suggested, it is a special edition luxury watch based on the watchmaker’s Luminor timepiece, infused with Razer’s iconic aesthetic.
Drawing inspiration from the gaming lifestyle’s colors, the all-black watch is punctuated by striking electric green on the small seconds dial and strap stitching. The watch features a 40 mm case composed of eSteel coated with DLC to achieve a cool matte black finish. eSteel, btw, is a next-generation metal made of recycled steel that shares the same properties as regular steel.
Speaking of which, the strap is made sustainably too. It is made from recycled PET derived from post-consumer plastic bottles. Moreover, the watch will be delivered in packaging composed of 72% recycled material.
Like the rest of the Luminor timepiece, the Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition shares the same cushion-shaped case, including a patented crown-protection bridge decorated with subtle engravings like a triple-headed snake on the dial, the case back, as well as Razer brand name in its signature font on the crown-protection bridge.
Completing the design is the gray Super-LumiNova on the sandwich dial that glows green in low light, thereby harmonizing with the Razer’s distinctive palette we have seen so far. The Razer’s touches were explicit and yet subtle at the same time, which I thought was pretty damn cool.
Other features include the P.900 caliber movement, a seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, a date window at 3 o’clock, a three-day power reserve, water resistance to 10 bar (about 100 meters or 330 feet), a quick release buckle, and a quick release system that allows a tool-free strap swap.
The Panerai Luminor Quaranta Razer Special Edition will have a limited run of just 500 pieces, available exclusively through Panerai boutiques and Panerai.com. It has an asking price of US$8,400.
