2-door, 4-seat is not uncommon in automobiles but a car that has 4 doors but only 2 seats? Well, that is a weird arrangement that is kind of unheard of as far as stock factory cars are concerned. Notwithstanding that it does not make any sense at all, here it is, the car that has 4-doors and just 2 seats, the Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition, the performance edition of the performance edition Corolla.
For the Morizo Edition, the rear seat was removed which reduced the weight by about 30 kilograms (66 lbs). Bizarre 4-door, 2-seat arrangement aside, this is the Corolla you want if you are super into hot hatches.
The car is said to be “discerningly crafted, with Toyota Motor Corporation President and Master Driver Akio Toyoda aka Morizo, directly behind the wheel of the development prototypes.
The result is a Japanese trim GR Corolla (dubbed GR Corolla RZ) with higher peak torque (400 Nm/295 lb-ft as opposed to 370 Nm/272 lb-ft) squeezed out of the same 1.6L in-line 3-cylinder intercooler turbo engine, with a boost in acceleration performance through increasing the torque in the mid-rpm range.
The dynamic performance also saw improvements too – thanks to the tweaked gear ratio, boasting lower-geared differential gears, and the use of closer ratios for the first, second, and third gears.
Other highlights of the Morizo Edition include an increase in body rigidity with structural adhesive and body reinforcement braces, 10 mm wider high-grip tires, exclusive semi-bucket seats, and door trim ornamentation, the instrument panel, and others in cast-black paint coalesce with an Ultrasuede-upholstered steering wheel and center console.
The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition is presented in an exclusive Matte Steel exterior color, and the front windshield bears Morizo’s signature.
The Toyota GR Corolla Morizo Edition will be available in limited units through GR Garage locations across the U.S. this winter. There will be a reservation lottery for the purchase of the car starting this Fall.
Meanwhile, the Toyota GR Corolla RZ, the Japanese-market trim level of the all-new GR Corolla unveiled in April, is scheduled to go on sale this Fall through Toyota vehicle dealers.
