In case you haven’t heard, during the recent Google I/O, in addition to unveiling the new Pixel 6a and the new Pixel Buds Pro, Google surprised everyone by offering a preview of the upcoming hardware, collectively known as the Pixel portfolio.
I don’t know about you but personally, it felt like the search giant has slapped itself on the face because the Pixel portfolio includes the new Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, the super anticipated wearable, the Pixel Watch, and finally, a new Pixel tablet. The latter will also be a Tensor-powered device. Possibly the second-gen Google Tensor that will be powering the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.
As to why I thought it is a slap on its face… well that’s because, after telling me you can buy this wonderful, slightly low-cost Pixel 6a, Google proceed to tell the same group of people “hey, you know what? This is the preview of the new generation Pixel which will be coming this fall.”
It just feels like a super strange marketing strategy. Like, do you want us to wait for the new device or buy this slightly cheaper current-gen device? Come on, Google, you are kind of cannibalizing your own market. I am pretty sure there were people who were, for a moment, went like “I am going to get the 6a!” but then, go, “OK, maybe I will wait for the 7.” I guess we can only blame the fact that 365 days a year is just too short.
As mentioned earlier in the post, as far as Pixel 7 goes, it will run on the next-gen Tensor. In addition, it will continue the design language of the Pixel 6 with slight tweaks and of course, new colors. Beyond that, little is known about the device.
Little is known about the Pixel Watch too. However, we do have a good look at the design which is a bold circular, dome design that has a tactile crown. Google said the watch will have recycled stainless steel construction and customizable bands that easily attach.
The first wearable tech from Google will leverage Fitbit’s health and fitness tools – the fitness tracker company which Google bought in 2019.
Both Google Pixel 7 series and the Google Pixel Watch are set to be available this Fall while the Tensor-powered Google Pixel Tablet will arrive much later in 2023. Meanwhile, you can learn more about the upcoming Pixel Watch HERE and Pixel 7 Series smartphones HERE.
