Fact: Hot Toys products are expensive as hell and yet, do not contain diecast parts. Also fact: Despite the fact that C-3PO is a droid, no metals are found in most – if not all – of its collectibles. Those two facts are “resolved” with this new release from Hot Toys: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones C-3PO 1/6th Scale Diecast Collectible Figure.
Before we go on… can we just rant about how Hot Toys isn’t consistent with the naming? I mean, the last Hot Toys figure we featured here was Luke Skywalker as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. With Luke’s figure, Hot Toys named it Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back which does not include “Episode V” but now, it chose to include the “Episode” with the C-3PO figure.
Call me anal or whatever, I would very much prefer if everyone sticks to what Lucasfilm originally called it and that’s with the “Episode” in the title for the original trilogy and the prequels. Anyhoo, moving on…
Hot Toys is continuing with the Star Wars release that will tickle the fancy of fans from the pre-Disney era. Celebrating the 20 years of Attack of the Clones, Hot Toys is releasing a new C-3PO figure, along with his best bud, R2-D2, as they were seen in Episode II (thank goodness it isn’t Jar Jar Binks!).
C-3PO is crafted in diecast material and boasts intricate mechanical detailings, plus awesome weathering effects and LED light-up eyes. C3-PO is supplied with a blaster, an interchangeable Battle Droid head, interchangeable hands, a figure base, and it comes packed inside a specially designed commemorative packaging.
C-3PO stands around 29 cm (11.4 inches) tall and its newly developed body has over 26 points of articulation.
Meanwhile, the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones R2-D2 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure also features diecast parts, specifically the dome, which has a 360-degree spin design.
This screen-accurate trusty astromech droid built by Anakin features a highly detailed mechanical construction body with opening panels, retractable middle leg, and remote-controlled LED light-up functions and sound effects. All told, it has no less than 8 sets of LED light-up points and 14 iconic R2-Dr sounds.
It further touts weathering effects and comes with an array of accessories including a pair of rocket thrusters, and a tether cable for recreating the scene when R2 fixes Threepio. Also included is a collection of attachable mechanical arms and tools because it wouldn’t be Artoo without them.
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones R2-D2 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure stands about 18 cm (7.1 inches) tall, has 10 points of articulations, and it, too, comes in a specially designed commemorative packaging.
Both Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones C-3PO 1/6th Scale Diecast Collectible Figure and the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones R2-D2 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure will drop sometime in Q2-Q3 2023 with prices around US$270-330. Pre-orders for these two figures are happening at major toy retailers, including Sideshow and Big Bad Toy Store.
