Casio continues its celebration of the 40th anniversary of the tough G-SHOCK watch series by launching the GCW-B5000UN models on November 09. These new watches, part of the ‘5000’ series, feature carbon components that offer a balance between strength and lightness.
The GCW-B5000UN inherits the original square-shaped model’s design and introduces various carbon fabrication techniques for its case, bezel, band, and clasp. This innovative approach results in a significant weight reduction of about 65g or 2.3 oz. which is whopping 61% lighter than a comparable full-metal model. In wristwatch terms, 65g is a hell lot of weight reduction, btw.
Offering two models – one in basic black and another with a striking purple hue from mixed molding – these watches feature designs inspired by space, including the Big Bang and planetary motifs. Additionally, the back of each watch boasts a special 40th-anniversary logo by graphic artist Eric Haze.
Beyond the carbon awesomeness, both two timepieces come equipped with G-Shock technology as standard and it includes Shock Resistance, 200M Water Resistance, Magnetic Resistance, Solar Powered (Tough Solar), Bluetooth Smartphone Link, Full Auto LED (Super Illuminator) Light, 4 Daily Alarms plus 1 Snooze Alarm, World Time (39 TZ/39 Cities + UTC), Countdown timer (24 Hr.), 1/100s Stopwatch (24 Hr.), and 12/24 Hr. Time Formats.
The G-Shock GCW-B5000UN-1 and GCW-B5000UN-6 are available now priced at a cool 2,000 American dollars each. You may find it at select retailers, Gshock.casio.com/us, and the G-Shock Soho store.
