evoBOT, An Autonomous 2-Wheeled Cargo Carrying Robot

Developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics, the evoBOT is an autonomous two-wheeled balancing robot that’s capable of picking up and carrying cargo and then depositing it where it’s needed. It’s like a kid on a hoverboard, but without the kid, and infinitely more useful. Also, I like those tennis ball attachments it has; my grandpa’s walker has those too.

evoBOT remains constantly balanced using the principle of an inverse pendulum (with no external counterweight) and remains stable even on uneven surfaces and slopes. That’s important because, unlike some people actually believe, the earth isn’t flat. Or is it?! It’s not.

Now we’re just a short hop, skip, and jump away from having actual useful robotic helpers around the house. Robot, bring me a cold drink! Robot, clean up that drink I just spilled! Robot, do it faster, you’re terrible at your job. Wait, robot — where’d you get that knife?!
