There are fast phones and then there is a fast phone that wants you to know it is fast through an exclusive co-branding with a Formula 1 race team. Because, you know, F1 is fast. Get it? Get it? The Xiaomi Redmi K50 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Gaming Phone, aka the Redmi K50 Champion Edition, is that phone.
And so, yes, there is a new Redmi K Series which, like the Redmi K40 Series from last year, has a gaming edition too. And also yes, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team has officially become Redmi’s exclusive partner. Though not the other way. At least not yet.
Anyhoo, the phone was jointly released by Redmi and Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team to celebrate the racing team’s 2021-season Formula 1 constructors’ championship victory (congrats, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team!).
The Redmi K50 Champion Edition is not only a phone rigged for gaming, backed by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, fast RAM (LPDDR5), and fast storage (UFS 3.1) but it also benefits from another fast: 120 W “godly flash charge”.
In an age where smartphone makers are making excuses not to provide consumers with a charger, the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Gaming Phone comes supplied with a gallium nitride (GaN) charger featuring Navitas Semiconductor’s next-generation GaNFast power ICs with GaNSense technology that can fully charged the device in just 17 minutes. And it can fully top the device, even under full-speed, intense gaming use, in only 37 minutes.
Other notables include a 6.67-inch flexible OLED display with DisplayMate A+ certification, dual Sony cameras on front and rear, a 4,700 mah battery, dual head source separation that separates the processor heat from the charging ICs’, double vapor-chamber liquid cooling with a total area of 4,860 square millimeter, magnetic pop-up shoulder trigger buttons, and JBL quad-speaker and support for Dolby Atmos.
The Xiaomi Redmi K50 Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Gaming Phone is limited to 10,000 units and offered in 12 + 256 GB configuration for 4,199 yuan (about US$660).
