So you think video games lack humor? And that a gun-toting squirrel isn’t funny? Well then, the upcoming top-down video game from Sydney-based developer/publisher, dubbed The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga, may change your mind. How could it not when even the name tickles? We appreciate the wordplay on The Godfather and if I can be honest, that is the very thing that drew me to it.
In this game, you play as a pigeon trying to make it in the pigeon underworld. As a rising associate in the pigeon underworld, you will execute the missions issued by HQ and face brutal boss encounters. The Godfeather felt like Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 but played out by a pigeon and no autos involved. Where there are autos, they’d be targets to be pooped on.
The fact that it is top-down, makes it feel even more like the first two GTA video games. If that’s not GTA-ish enough, The Godfeather also has wanted status where you will run the risk of being “busted” or in this case “flocked”. Here’s a short description of what to expect:
“From The Suburbs to The Boidwalk to The Town, players must avoid enemy “Anti-Pigeon Drones”, cats, lifeguards, lawn-Karens, owls and much more using stealth tactics (and poop) to their advantage. Along the way, players can loot dumpsters to reload your poop ammo, upgrade their pigeon abilities to get the edge in combat or customise their pigeon’s whole look for maximum glow-up.”
That’s right. The poop can be upgraded to deal more damage and it has the ability to upgrade its skills to have an edge in the game.
The Godfeather: A Mafia Pigeon Saga is expected to launch in October on Steam coinciding with the game’s appearance at PAX Australia. The game will also appear at the inaugural SXSW Sydney Game Fest from October 18-22, 2023. Meanwhile, here’s the game’s official trailer:
