When you hit up the trail for a run, the last thing in your mind would be to bring a power bank but here we have here the NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 Ultra Lightweight Carbon Fiber Energy Brick, a power bank specially designed for trail running.
I know it sounds ridiculous but think of it as benefiting users who never thought of bringing a power bank to a run because it is sleek, super low profile, and more importantly, crazy lightweight.
As the product name suggests, NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 Ultra Lightweight Carbon Fiber Energy Brick is a successor to the original NB10000 which is now retired.
The most striking feature of this power bank is perhaps the eye-catching carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) constructed frame which is impact resistant and hence, perfect for protecting the cell within.
Despite it packing a whopping 10,000 mAh, the NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 remains thin and ultra-lightweight, measuring a mere 10.6 mm (0.42 inches) and tipping the scales at just 150g (5.29 oz).
To put the numbers in perspective, an iPhone 14 weighs 172g and the new MacBook Pro 14 M2 Pro chip is 15.5 mm thick and a typical 10,000 mAh power bank would measure about 1.18” (30 mm). It is a mind-boggling 40% lighter than conventional 10,000 mAh power banks.
It is not just thin and ultralight; the overall size is incredibly compact given its capacity. It measures 121.9 x 59 x 10.6 mm (4.8 x 2.32 x 0.42 inches) which is smaller than my gorilla-size hand. Absolutely mind-blowing.
Moreover, it touts over 22 % higher energy density, coming in at 257 mWh/g as opposed to 210 mWh/g in an 18650 li-ion battery.
Its ruggedness is not limited to CFRP; it is IPX5 rated too so it’d remain unscathed in the face of rain or snow. And it can be used in pretty extreme temperatures of between -10 to 40°C (14-104°F).
The NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 features two ports with support for PD and QC 3.0 output. It has a USB-A with up to 18W output and a USB-C port that can output up to 20W or accept up to 18W input.
Armed with 10,000 mAh, 38.5 Wh, the NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 has enough juice to charge an iPhone 13 Pro 2 times or provide a NITECORE headlamp with 4.5 charges.
The power bank is equipped with power level indicators along with a physical mode selection button and further boasts Low Current Mode, allowing it to charge low current devices such as wireless headphones, wearables, and more.
Furthermore, it is an airline-approved power, allowing it to accompany you on a flight. Finally, it touts multiple protection safeguards, including overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, over-discharge protection, overcharge protection, overvoltage protection, and thermal protection.
The NITECORE NB10000 Gen2 Carbon Fiber Power Bank is available now in a choice of black or silver with a starting price of US$59.95.
