If you are a huge fan of Star Wars who goes beyond collecting toys, then you may want to check out the new Fossil x Star Wars Watch and Jewelry Collection. Even better for purists is that the collection actually pays homage to the original trilogy.
There are 10 analog timepieces in the collection and a bunch of jewelry including earrings, necklaces, and a charm bracelet. Among the wristwatches which are inspired by iconic characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Boba Fett, and more, there are two limited edition automatic timepieces that stood out the most paying homage to two of the most adored droids.
The automatic timepieces are the Limited Edition Star Wars R2-D2 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch and the Limited Edition Star Wars C-3PO Automatic Stainless Steel Watch. The former is powered by a precision Japanese automatic movement with a minute hand shaped like R2-D2’s repair tool arm.
It does not have a traditional hour hand. Instead, it has an hour indicator window near the center at 6 o’clock. The watch has an applied, stamped, and printed dimensional R2-D2 frame which is also home to a day/night indicator with a lume-filled Rebel logo, and there is a Fossil logo in Aurebesh on the minute dial.
Around the back, it has a comic illustration of R2-D2 and the edition number engraved along with other watch information. The Limited Edition Star Wars R2-D2 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch has a limited run of 1,983 pieces – paying homage to 40 years of Return of the Jedi – and retails for US$370 each.
Meanwhile, the Limited Edition Star Wars C-3PO Automatic Stainless Steel Watch has a C-3PO-inspired dial with an exposed automatic movement that lets you see the inner workings. The gold skeleton dial – which is in fact C-3PO face – is paired with a 41 mm gold-tone stainless steel case with a silver lug, as a nod to C-3PO’s silver leg. The watch also rocks a Fossil logo in Aurebesh.
On the case back, you can find a comic book-style illustration of C-3PO and etched droid cabling-inspired details. The C-3PO automatic piece also has an edition number of just 1,983, with the watch individually numbered on the case back. The Limited Edition Star Wars C-3PO Automatic Stainless Steel Watch also sells for US$370 each.
Both watches come in an exclusive box which is as collectible as the timepieces. Each box features a comic book-style illustration of R2-D2 or C-3PO, a replica movie ticket pin, and cinematic sound effects. That’s right. The box features the sound of the familiar chatter of R2-D2 and in the case of C-3PO, it is a recorded voice of the droid saying “Oh, we surrender.” How’s that for collectability?
