I don’t recall any of the LEGO Technic set for AFOLs having an alternate built. But that does not stop one LEGO enthusiast from turning the LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 Rs into a Lancia Stratos. And more recently, someone turned the LEGO Technic Ferrari Daytona SP3 into, wait for it, a sci-fi rifle.
The brilliant mind behind this unlikely reconstruction of the 42143 is Ray Studio. We have featured many of Ray Studio’s works. The studio is first and foremost a plastic model-making studio and the LEGO Technic Ferrari Daytona SP3 Gun is its first-ever LEGO creation.
The idea was birthed when Ray acquire the studio’s first LEGO set and decided to use their collective creativity to turn it into something else using entire elements from the set. The result is a powered sci-fi gun that can actually shoot projectiles – by the virtue of rubber bands, albeit not having good range. But the strength of the shooting mechanism can be adjusted by varying the rubber bands’ tension.
I think the real draw here isn’t the shooting functionality; it is in the movements. When powered up, the entire rifle comes to life. The front has “flaps” that move harmonically much like the grills on aquatic animals, making feel a little biopunk-ish. You may check out the video over at the Chinese video website, bilibili.
