2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray: Is Kind Of Like A Hybrid But Better. Maybe?

This is the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray. Before you go ga-ga over it – whether in anger for turning the dear old Stingray into an electric ride or elated because the icon has taken the electric route – no, IT IS NOT an electric Corvette. Technically, it is a hybrid but yet it is not quite like one.

Instead, the 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is an eAWD that features “an advanced electrified propulsion system” in addition to the 6.2L LT2 Small Block V8. So, yeah, it is a hybrid all right. You know what they say, “if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it just may be a duck.”

The all-new Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is revealed in time for the 70th birthday of the Corvette which was first introduced in 1953.

While technically a hybrid, the E-Ray plays it out a little differently. It pairs two separate propulsion systems to provide the naturally aspirated V8 power with electrified responsiveness powered by eAWD. It is indeed a unique blend not seen on sports cars yet. At least we have not heard of such a setup.

The electric motor, which puts out 160 horses and 125 lb-ft (165 Nm) of torque, drives the front wheel and is juiced by a 1.9 kWh battery pack. Meanwhile, the main power plant is the 6.2L LT2 Small Block V8, which develops 495 horsepower and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque, powers the rear.

All told, the E-Ray has a combined output of 655 horsepower which affords a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint in just 2.5 seconds and an impressive quarter-mile run timing of 10.5 seconds (@ 130 mph/209 km/h).

Unlike regular hybrid vehicles which are mostly – if not all – plug-in hybrids, the E-Ray requires no charging. The battery is charged via regenerative energy from coasting and braking, and during normal driving. While so, it can be powered by electric-only like a regular hybrid, albeit only up to 45 mph (72 km/h) (known as Stealth mode).

Other notables include a standard Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system, standard Magnetic Ride Control 4.0, staggered 20- and 21-inch aluminum wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport all-season tires, an enhanced roaster of driver assistance technologies, and strikingly beautiful low, wide stance with crafted body styling.

The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray will go on sale this year (2023), with an MSRP of US$104,295 for the 1LZ coupe and US$111,295 for the 1LZ convertible model. In the meantime, you can get your fix by learning more HERE.
