Last year, MINI revealed a one-off not-for-sale all-electric MINI Cooper SE Convertible. Well, that “not-for-sale” status did not last very long because the German-own British marque has just announced that it is in fact available to buy.
The all-new MINI Cooper SE Convertible, according to MINI, is the world’s first convertible with a purely electric drive. It is part of the brand’s journey to becoming a fully electric brand.
This latest EV from MINI is a small series production with a limited edition run of 999 vehicles. There’s a catch though. It is only available in Europe. Since it is a limited-run series, we doubt it will be available outside of Europe.
The vehicle is driven forth by a 184 hp (135 kW) electric motor and paired with a battery system that offers a WLTP range of 201 kilometers (125 miles). The electric drive enables a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in a respectable (but definitely not the best for an EV) 8.2 seconds.
At up to 30 km/h (18.6 mph), the super quiet, fully electrically powered textile soft top in MINI Yours Style with Union Jack pattern can be opened, closed, or set as a sliding roof.
Other features you can expect include edition-specific 17-inch cast alloy wheels made from secondary aluminum, edition-specific details on door sill trims and side scuttles with edition number (x of 999), Resolute Bronze door handles, side scuttles, and front and rear lights, MINI Yours Leather Lounge design sports seats with heating and adjustable thigh support, Nappa leather-wrapped multifunctional sports steering wheel, and more.
The all-electric MINI Cooper SE Convertible will be produced in a limited edition of 999 vehicles alongside the conventional MINI Convertible in the Netherlands. Pricing is revealed at this point and neither is the exact availability.
