BMW has taken the wrap off the latest generation M2 performance car. The new 2023 BMW M2 coupé promised to deliver the signature M performance but “in a highly concentrated form”.
The new M2 may have compact dimensions but it has powertrain and chassis technology adapted from the BMW M3/BMW M4. But how compact? Without giving exact numbers… it has a shorter interior and wheelbase than the M4 but a wider track than the 2 Series coupé.
Visually differentiating itself from the regular 2 series is, of course, the unmistakable sporty exterior including the purposefully sculpted surfaces, flared side skirts, and muscular wheel arches, as well as the striking large, frame-less BMW kidney grilled with horizontal slats.
The all-new 2023 BMW M2 is powered by a six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology that produces 460 HP (453 mechanical horsepower) – 90 horses more than its predecessor – and turns out 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque.
The M-power motor is mated to an eight-speed M Steptronic gearbox featuring Drivelogic as standard, with the option to go with a six-speed manual gearbox for those who demand more connection with the car.
All told, the new BMW M2 makes the century sprint (0-100 km/h; 0-62 mph) in 4.1 seconds, or 4.3 seconds with a manual gearbox. The top speed is 250 km/h (155 mph) but it can be raised to 285 km/h (177 mph) with the optional M Driver’s Package.
The car is, of course, rear-wheel drive. I mean, it ain’t a sports car if it is not left-hand drive and rear-wheel drive. Just saying…
Other notables include bespoke bracing, M Traction Control, Active M Differential at the rear axle, an advanced BMW Curved Display featuring a 12.3-inch information display and a 14.9” control display, three-zone automatic climate control, twin tailpipes, an M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps – just to name a few.
The 2023 BMW M2 Sports Coupé will see a global launch in April 2023. Meanwhile, you may learn more HERE.
