ASUS has four new gaming phones for anyone who is in the market for a gaming phone. While most people pull their hair over which one to choose, I think it is an easy choice because they are almost identical. The four devices are the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro, and the just unveiled ROG Phone 6D and ROG 6D Ultimate.
It may feel like ASUS is out to confuse you but if you scrutinize the specs, it is really just one model. Basically, the 6 Series, i.e. the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro, which were revealed in July is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and the new 6D Series, namely, the ROG Phone 6D and ROG 6D Ultimate is powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9000+.
The 6D is equivalent to the 6 while the 6D Ultimate is the 6 Pro of the 6D series. The only difference is in the chip and GPU. It is really that simple. Differentiating the Pro/Ultimate from the ROG Phone 6/ROG Phone 6D is the amount of RAM and storage, and also the range-topper of each series has got an additional 2” OLED display on the back of the device.
I believe those are the key differentiating aspects between the two series and the two models in each series. See, it is not very confusing, isn’t it? OK. Maybe just a little. Anyhoo, you just have to decide to go with Dimensity or Snapdragon, and the RAM and the storage capacity. Also, there is also a teeny weeny difference in the dimension and weight.
The rest of the spec-sheet details, from the 165 Hz 6.78-inch AMOLED HDR10+ FHD+ display to the triple camera setup (50 MP wide + 13 MP ultrawide + 5 MP MP) and a 12 MP selfie camera to the 6,000 mAh battery, are the same. I kid you not.
This makes my life easier trying to highlight the features of the new ROG Phone, which include Corning Gorilla Victus (front), Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (back), aluminum frame, dual SIM (nano SIM), IPX4 water resistant, illuminated RGB logo on the back, pressure-sensitive zones (gaming triggers), 8K video recording at 24 fps and 4K at up to 120 fps, stereo speakers with dual amplifiers, tri-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS (GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS, NavIC), USB Type-C, in-display fingerprint sensor, and support for 65W fast charging, 10W reverse charging.
We are not sure of the pricing of the ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro. However, we know that the ROG Phone 6D will start from €949, depending on the RAM/ROM configuration while the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, which is offered only in 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB UFS 3.1 storage and bundled with AeroActive Cooler 6, has a €1,399 sticker.
