It felt like the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active3, Samsung‘s ruggedized Tab, was revealed not too long ago but in reality, that was nearly two years ago. This means it would appear that consumers have been stuck with the Galaxy Tab Active3 for the longest time. Well, not any longer because the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro has been announced.
As before, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro marries the best of what a Galaxy Tab has to offer with military-grade toughness, allowing it to stand up to harsh conditions, with the bonus of lightweight portability.
As far as ruggedness goes, the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 is blessed with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance (including the integrated S Pen), and is MIL-STD-810H compliant, allowing it to withstand extreme altitudes, temperatures, vibration, and humidity. Moreover, it is able to sustain drops from up to a meter (3.3 feet), or up to 1.2 m (3.9 feet) with the supplied protective cover.
While rugged, it managed to maintain a thickness of just 10.2 mm and tips the scale at 674g (about 24 oz).
It has many business/professional features, including key mapping for programming device keys based on the organizations’ needs to quickly launch business-critical or commonly used apps at a press of a button, a 10.1-inch WUXGA (1,920 x 1,200 pixels) TFT LCD touch panel that can be adjusted for use with gloves, Enhanced NFC and mobile Knox Platform for POS (Point Of Sale), Knox Capture that allows the device to function as an enterprise-grade barcode scanner for real-time tracking and checking of inventory, and significantly increased in max volume so users can hear any audio or sound from the tablet even in noisy environments such as a construction site.
The tablet is also ready to support DBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) for private network service, thus allowing businesses to use their own reliable and scalable network. In addition, it has an interesting feature called No Battery Mode. In this mode, the device can be used continuously at a kiosk or in a vehicle without a battery to prevent depleting the battery’s health, even in high-temperature environments.
Other spec-sheet details include a 6 nm process Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 5G chip, built-in Sub6 5G and Wi-Fi 6 to ensure super-fast wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2, microSDXC support up to 1 TB, a 13 MP autofocus rear camera with flash, an 8 MP front-facing camera, side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a replaceable 7,600 mAh battery, and POGO fast-charging.
As with regular Galaxy Tabs, it can connect to an external display through Samsung DeX. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab Active4 Pro is available in two configurations: 4 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM and 6 GB RAM +128 GB ROM.
It will be available this month (September) in parts of Europe, with availability in Asia, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East to follow suit later in 2022.
