If you want a large flat screen TV in your bedroom but do not wish to spend a fortune, and/or do not have the space, then perhaps a pico projector, such as the Tairona Pocket Size Projector from inaday’s, may be worthy of your consideration.
Since starting with the super sleek insect catcher/killing machine, Taiwan-based inaday’s portfolio has grown to include flashlights, power banks, headphones, and now, a pico projector. The inaday’s Tairona Pocket Size Projector is super small and lightweight, measuring 112 x 112 x 28 mm (4.4 x 4.4 x 1.1 inches) and 277g (9.8 oz).
While small, it is able to project anything from 10-120 inches on any flat surface with a projection distance of 0.2-3.8 m (0.65’-12.5’). It may be small but it demands quite some space between it and the flat surface, and so, a small room may not be able to take advantage of the large screen it has to offer.
And if you don’t have space on vertical walls, it can project onto the ceiling too, so you can lie on the bed and catch your favorite shows.
Tairona features DLP projection enabled by Texas Instrument Dico DLP chip and RGB LED, and has a projected lamp life of 30,000 hours. It projects up to 4K resolution and at 300 lumens (100 ANSI lumen) which means it is meant for low to dark environments.
It is WiFi-enabled and has Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity to wirelessly for connecting to the Internet and also wireless external speakers. There’s an HDMI ARC too, allowing for a single cable connection with compatible speakers such as an HDMI ARC-enabled soundbar, for example.
Tairona Pocket Size Projector can do what most bigger DLP projectors can do, which includes support streaming apps, mirroring (AirPlay, MiraCast, dlna), and hooked up to consoles such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation5 et cetera. Since it runs on Android OS, the entertainment options are pretty much limitless.
Other notables include 8 GB of onboard memory, auto keystone correction for projection at off angle, a built-in speaker, Dolby Audio support (Dolby 5.1 surround sound when hooked up with compatible speakers), a library-quiet built-in fan for heat dissipation, voice control, USB port, 3.5 mm audio headphone jack, and a built-in 5,600 mAh battery good for 3 hours of runtime in between charges.
The device can also be powered with a 12V cable where there’s a wall outlet or if there isn’t, it can be powered and recharged with a power bank.
Each device is supplied with a motion-sensing air mouse which is a remote that also serves as a mouse in the air.
Finally, we need to clear the air about this device. It was launched in inaday’s home market, Taiwan, earlier this year but this one found on Kickstarter is a tweaked version with some upgrades, like a new color, a Dolby audio chip, and HDMI ARC. That said, you can learn more about the new inaday’s Tairona Pocket Size Projector on Kickstarter where, if so desire, you can also pre-order a unit for about US$376.
