One of the most iconic vehicles to come out of the original Jurassic Park movie had to be the 1993 Ford Explorer, specifically the EXP 04 Tour Vehicle. To commemorate the release of the Jurassic World Dominion, Matchbox has created a limited-edition EXP 04 1993 Ford Explorer Tour Vehicle. However, it isn’t quite movie-accurate.
It is the 1993 Ford Explorer with the iconic Jurassic Park livery and all but the paint job isn’t the flat colors; the Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer – Jurassic Park is rocking a metallic sheen paint job. It has the same livery, just that it is very blinged now – thanks to the metallic paint job. And what used to be yellow wheels are now in striking gold.
The Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer – Jurassic Park is admittedly quite alluring but purists may beg to differ. Then again, if you are such a huge fan, you may already own the 2022 Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer Tour Vehicle EXP 05 in its original colors released a couple of months ago.
Anyhoo, in addition to the Jurassic Park logo on the hood and sides. The numeral “04” can also be found on the sides, plus Ford and Explorer logos on the rear.
The Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer – Jurassic Park is built on the ZAMAC body type with a black ABS base and rides on 6-spoke wheels with VUM hubs. It has a slightly sculpted interior in light brown and light smoke-tinted windows.
The die-cast toy collectability is further boosted by a package featuring an oversized acrylic case with a terrain-molded base and environment-themed panorama background (which is the T. rex paddock) in a window box, with a sturdy outer box.
The Matchbox 1993 Ford Explorer – Jurassic Park will go on sale on August 23, 2022, at 9 AM PT, priced at US$25 a pop.
