Just not too long ago, camera/optics companies’ collaboration remained two a couple of companies. You know. Huawei with Leica. Sony and Nokia with Zeiss. But starting less year, this exclusive optics/smartphone collab club appears to have been democratized.
There is the Sharp with Leica, Xiaomi with Leica, OnePlus with Hasselblad, Oppo with Hasselblad, and there is, of course, Vivo collaboration with Zeiss since 2020. Speaking of Vivo, it is keeping up with a new device: the Vivo X80 Series with Zeiss optics.
Vivo X80 Series is offered in two flavors: the Vivo X80 Pro and the Vivo X80. The key differences between the two models are display type, cameras, and battery and charging.
While both devices have a 120 Hz 6.78-inch AMOLED display, the Pro is WQHD+ (3,200 x 1,440 pixels) and supports 1 billion colors while the regular X80 is FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080 pixels) and has 16.7 million colors.
In the imaging aspect, the Pro is a quad camera (50 MP main + 48 MP ultra-wide + 12 MP pro portrait camera + 8 MP periscope telephoto) while the non-Pro has a tri-camera setup (50 MP main + 12 MP ultra-wide + 12 MP pro portrait camera). Both front-facing cameras appear to be the same 32 MP item.
Finally, the battery of the Pro is 4,700 mAh and supports 80W flash charge and 50W wireless flash charge, and the X80 is outfitted with a 4,500 mAh with 80 W fast charge and no wireless charging.
Both the X80 Pro and X80 are powered by 4 nm process MediaTek Dimensity 9000 with octacore processor and Arm Mali-G710 GPU. The Pro, however, has the option of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 and Gen 1 chip paired with Adreno 730 GPU. LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 are standards in both models, differing in the memory configurations.
The Vivo X80 Series smartphones are listed on Vivo websites for many countries but pricing wasn’t offered. Back in China though, the X80 Pro has a starting price of 5,439 RMB and the regular X80 starts at 3,699 RMB, which works to around US$808 and US$549, respectively.
