Move over single perspective action camera because the 360-degree spherical view is the future, and the Insta360 X3 is one such device that lets you record 360 spherical view video.
The sickest part of the Insta360 X3, IMHO, is that it can stay locked to the horizon and keeps the subject in view no matter how you orient the camera – thanks to the 360° horizon lock.
Outfitted with two 1/2” 48 MP sensors, the Insta360 X3 lets you record 5.7K 360 active HDR video and 360 timelapse in 8K. It also lets you snap 72 MP photos, and capture 4K 120 fps bullet time (i.e. 360 videos of you by swinging the cam around you), or in 3K 180 fps.
In addition to the various modes like sky swap (switching out the sky for whatever effects), nose mode, and street lapse, there is a new Me mode that focuses on you at 60 fps for an epic slow-mo video.
The camera also supports 4K single-lens 30 fps mode or 2.7K MaxView for an extremely wide angle of 170° FoV as well as 4K vertical mode.
Baked into the device is the ability to stitch out itself and the selfie stick for a true 360 spherical view. The result is like viewing from the inside of a floating ball. The illusion of a floating ball of video is only broken by the shadow of the camera and selfie stick.
Also present is “shooting first and frame later”. deep track 2.0, and of course, the action cam maker’s stabilization technology, Flowstate.
Other highlights include IPX8 waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters), a 1,800 mAh removable battery with 81 minutes of runtime per charge, a 2.29” touchscreen with tempered glass, a rugged build, large responsive buttons, voice control 2.0, 50% faster Wi-Fi transfers over the X2, 4-mic direction focus, and the ability to serve as a dashcam if so desire.
