How many box tissue covers can one own? I guess maybe three? Well, if it really is three and you are a big fan of Godzilla, then you are in luck. Folks, this is the Godzilla (1962) Box Tissue Cover. As the product name suggests, it is a decorative box tissue cover featuring a head sculpt of the Godzilla as seen in the 1962’s King Kong Vs Godzilla movie.
This is the third Godzilla box tissue cover following the first Gojira (1954) box tissue box and 1989’s Godzilla movie (also known as the “Heisei” Godzilla) box tissue cover. The Godzilla (1962) Box Tissue Cover will be released in August 2022, just in time for the 60th anniversary of the 1962 King Kong Vs Godzilla movie.
Like the previous versions, the box tissue cover is crafted from polystone and the head sculpt is based on the prototype designed by Kenichi Matsumoto, faithfully recreating the eyeballs, the rough texture of the skin, and the menacing teeth in its open mouth.
As before, tissue is dispensed from the mouth which, when tissues are drawn, kind of feels like the 60-year-old Gojira is spewing atomic breath (which was basically white smoke back in those days).
Also on the polystone box tissue cover is the movie’s title in Japanese katakana (キングコング対ゴジラ) before finishing with a poster-like background of red-fade-to-black. At a glance, the box tissue cover looks like a poster, IMHO, which is super cool and super nostalgic.
The Godzilla (1962) Box Tissue Cover measures 260 mm long 130 mm deep and 200 mm tall (10.2 x 5.1 x 7.9 inches). It is expected to arrive in early August 2022, priced at 5,700 yen a pop (or about US$43).
