Strange that we have anxiety when driving an electric car even though it has almost the same range as internal combustion cars. Oh, right. It is the charging that is the issue. You can’t bring a jerry can to top it up when you run out of juice in the middle of the highway.
While some clever folks are working for a quicker charging solution, Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX may quell your anxiety a little because, it has just made over a thousand kilometers (621 miles) on a single charge.
And mind you. That number is NOT theoreotical; it is based on real world driving on actual roads alongside real-world everyday traffic, and in real-world weather conditions, in Europe.
The VISION EQXX by Mercedes-EQ Concept recently made the headlines when it traveled from Sindelfingen across the Swiss Alps and Northern Italy to Cassis on the Côte d’Azur. The historic journey includes cruising at up to 140 km/h (87 mph) on the German autobahn.
Upon arrival to its destination, the vehicle has around 15 percent charge remaining. All told, the vehicle consumed a record-breaking low 8.7 kWh per 100 kilometers (62 miles).
Several factors, like drag coeffcient, rolling resisstance, efficient electric motors, and more – all worked to enable such feat.
The VISION EQXX is indeed the most efficient Mercedes-Benz ever built. Besides the technical feature the vehicle has achieved, can we just take a minute to appreciate how gorgeous the vehicle is? Just look at the lines.
At a glance, it looks a sports coupe but in reality, it is a sedan in a coupe shape. We know there have been 4-door coupe but we thought the VISION EQXX by Mercedes-EQ Concept does it better. If anyone’s interested, you may learn more about this awesome EV HERE.
