Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV: Luxury, 3-Row Electric Vehicle

Mercedes-Benz is moving fast and furious with its electrification plan. The company planned to produce only electric vehicles from 2025. For the more immediate future, the group will have battery electric vehicles (BEV) in all segments the company serves by 2022.

As far as upper market segments go, it has the EQS luxury sedan and the EQE sporty executive sedan, and the German luxury automaker is making good on that promise with the new EQS SUV.

The new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV Electric Vehicle shares the same long wheelbase as the EQS Sedan and in addition to it sitting higher off the ground, it is larger by volume too. The benefit of spaciousness can be immediately felt inside.

Speaking of the interior, the EQS SUV will come with electrically adjustable second-row seats as standard and the trunk itself is voluminous enough to swallow up to four golf bags. For folks who required more seating capacity, third-row seats with two additional individual seats are available as an option.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is powered by eATS permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) and it is offered in three versions: EQS 450+, EQS 450 4MATIC, and EQS 580 4MATIC. The latter two, as denoted by the model name, are all-wheel drive while the former is rear-wheel driven.

4MATIC version further features Torque Shift function for “continuous variable distribution of drive torque between the rear and front electric motors.”

Depending on the model, the new EQS SUV produces as much as 400 kW (536 HP) and 858 Nm (633 lb-ft) of torque and has a projected range of 507-660 kilometers (315 to 410 miles).

Like most electric vehicles, it supports over-the-air updates to receive new vehicle functions. For example, Trailer Manoeuvring Assist or MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) Augmented Reality Navigation can be activated at a later date with OTA updates.

The vehicle rides on a four-link axle at the front, independent multi-link suspension at the rear, and boasts AIRMATIC air suspension with continuously adjustable damping ADS+.

It further touts four selectable driving modes: ECO, COMFORT, SPORT, and INDIVIDUAL. There is an additional mode: OFFROAD for the 4MATIC version.
