DOOGEE has come a long way. From its humble beginning of making knock-off smartphones to finding its own niche in the rugged smartphone market. However, unlike regular rugged device makers, DOOGEE does not stop at ruggedizing its handsets.
Innovation has always been part of DOOGEE’s game plan. From the first rugged smartphone to rock reverse wireless charging to a rugged smartphone with a monumentally huge 10,000 mAh battery to outfitting a pro-grade range finder to a ruggedized device, the brand is relentless in pushing what it can pack into an otherwise mundane rugged phone.
The new DOOGEE S98, a follow-up to the pro-grade range finder-equipped S97 Pro from last year, is no different. Sporting the unmistakable rugged and yet classy look, the new DOOGEE S98 broke new ground again with the dual-screen display. That’s right. Dual-screen on a rugged device. You gotta give it to DOOGEE for daring to experiment.
In addition to the main 6.3-inch FHD+ (2,340 x 1,080 pixels) waterdrop display with Corning Gorilla Glass, the S98 has a second, circular display around the back that works pretty much like a smartwatch.
And smartwatch it probably is because you can customize the clock face like on a smartwatch, use the touch screen to control music, check the battery level, keep up with notifications, and more.
This unique second display is flanked by a tri-camera set with yet another unique feature: a 20 MP night vision camera that lets you capture stills and record videos even in pitch-black environments – thanks to dual IR lights (which is strangely located diagonally across the “watch”).
This night vision camera is joined by a 64 MP main camera, and an 8 MP wide-angle camera.
Interestingly, the device is powered by a MediaTek Helio G96 System-on-Chip that has an octacore processor designed for gaming. Odd move, but OK. I mean how many avid gamers are actually an outdoor person. Just saying…
Other notables include a 6,000 mAh battery good for 2-3 days of active use, 33W wired turbo charge, 15W wireless charging, Face ID unlock, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage – expandable with a microSD card, Android 12, side fingerprint sensor, customizable buttons – one on each side of the phone, GPS (GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo, AGPS), NFC, and it is dust- and waterproof with IP68/IP69K ratings, and it is built to MIL-STD-810G standards.
The DOOGEE S98 Dual-screen Rugged Smartphone will launch on March 28 and between the launch date and April 01, 2022, you can secure a unit at its lowest price. Though it has not been revealed how much the device will cost. To mark the launch of the device on March 28, DOOGEE will be giving away 8 units when the device is launched. So make sure you keep your eyes peeled on the DOOGEE S98 product page.
