Earlier this month, Xiaomi has put out words that it will be revealing a new flagship device powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. Unfortunately, it won’t be the first. The honor of being the first goes to Motorola Edge X30.
The new Motorola Edge X30 was revealed in China on December 9. Two versions were offered: the regular Motorola Edge X30 with a hole-punch camera display and a Motorola Edge X30 Under Display Camera Edition.
But whether or not you opt for a regular hole punch front-facing camera or the under-display camera, selfie enthusiasts will be in for a treat because the new Motorola Edge X30 has the industry’s first 60 MP front-facing camera (1.2 um, 1/2.8” sensor).
The rear camera cluster is no slouch either. It has a tri-camera setup comprising of a 50 MP main camera (2.0 um, 1/1.55” sensor with OIS), a 50 MP with 117o super wide-angle (1.3 um, 1/2.76” sensor, 2.5 cm AF macro), and a 2 MP depth sensor (f2.4, 1.75 um) neatly packed in a vertical orientation with a minimal camera bump.
But the real star of the show is, without doubt, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC that claims a 20% increase in CPU performance, 30% increase in GPU performance, and a whopping 400% bump in AI performance over the previous flagship SoC, 888+.
Motorola claims that the 8 Gen 1 SoC outfitted on its X30 is the first SoC to break a million mark on the Antutu benchmark with a score of 1,061,361 points.
The new 4 nm process mobile platform is bolstered by “Turbo” LPDDR5 RAM and “Turbo” UFS 3.1 storage. Hmmm, perhaps faster RAM helps in the impressive score? Perhaps.
Fronting the device is a 144 Hz refresh rate 6.7-inch 10-bit HDR10+ OLED display. Other notables include a stereo speaker with Dolby Atmos support, X65 baseband chip, support up to 10 5G frequency band, up to 14 4G frequency band, WiFi 6E, and a 5,000 mAh capacity battery that supports 68W fast charging.
The Motorola Edge X30 is available to order in China with a starting price of 2,999 yuan (or about US$471). Strangely though, it appears that only the regular X30 is up for pre-order, not the under-display edition.
