Now that Beats have not one, but two pairs of truly wireless earbuds, is there still a place for not-so-truly wireless earbuds like the Beats Flex? Apparently, Beats think there is, or perhaps, the Apple-owned company is trying to leverage on trendy followers of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design the earbuds relevant?
So yes, Hiroshi Fujiwara has partnered with Beats to give Beats Flex a fragment design makeover – specifically a “minimalist, tonal black design.” Along with the black-on-black design is, of course, fragment’s branding, namely the FRGMT logo and the double lightning logo. You will also get fragment-touched packaging along with a cobranded decal inside.
Beyond the minimal black colorway, the fragment design x Beats Flex earbuds is pretty much the Beats Flex you have come to know. This means it boasts features like magnetic earbuds with auto-play/pause, “power, precise sound,” up to 12 hours of listening time, the Apple W1 chip, and Class 1 Wireless Bluetooth.
Normally, we would question the rationale for such collaborations, but not with this one because of the price. It turns out that fragment design x Beats Flex earbuds cost the same affordable US$69.99. No premium. Are you surprised? I know I am.
That said, if you are in the market for a pair of wireless earbuds, I’d say why not this one? I mean, you get the endorsement of a trendy streetwear brand and assured audio quality and reliability, but without the premium. What’s not to love, right?
The fragment design x Beats Flex earbuds is slated to drop on Apple.com on November 18, 2021.
