Created by robotics firm Ascento, Guard is a “next generation” security robot designed to patrol an area and record any disturbances on its beat. What makes it so next generation? I’m not sure, but if I had to guess, it’s the cute LED eyes.
The two-wheeled all-weather robot is capable of traversing any terrain and can right itself from any position after a spill. I imagine that’s pretty important after getting kicked into a ditch by a perp. The robot uses AI to constantly balance itself and guide itself with centimeter accuracy, and can even drive up and down stairs. It also returns to its docking station autonomously to charge itself.
Right now the robot is capable of noticing disturbances (e.g. a cut fence or open door) during a scheduled patrol, and can also read license plates. Good luck reading mine though, I purposefully caked it with mud. The robot can also identify people, and has two-way communication so you can yell at those people from the safety of your security office. Should you arm your Ascento Guard with lasers and tasers? Probably not, but that’s never stopped me in the past.
