Remember the somewhat steampunk-ish augmented reality goggles, Magic Leap? It is not only well and alive but it has matured into an enterprise AR device called Magic Leap 2. When the first gen device was announced, it felt like it was both a leisure and professional device. Its successor, however, it is not undecided. It is straight up an enterprise device.
The design is also less “fun” and more futuristic and somewhat minimal. While the new Magic Leap 2 is described as an AR head-mounted display, I think it is closer to a pair of eyewear. It is super compact for an AR device, IMHO.
Key features include a super lightweight design that weighs just 260g (9.2 oz), Magic Leap’s exclusive Dynamic Dimming Technology that enables legibility across different lighting conditions, the highest compute performance (CPU/GPU) of any standalone AR device on the market, up to 70° field of view, best-in-class image performance, and support for multiple inputs, industrial-leading spatial audio.
Interestingly, instead of adopting an adjustable diopter for users who wear prescription glasses, this AR headset has quick swap Prescription Inserts that integrate your prescription lenses directly into the headset.
Other spec-sheet details include 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM, 256 GB onboard storage, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 6, a built0in 12.6 MP camera, 2 built-in stereo speakers, 4 microphones, and a built-in rechargeable battery with up to 3.5 hours battery life per charge. The device runs on Magic Leap OS based on Android Open Source Project.
The Magic Leap 2 Next-Gen Augmented Reality Eyewear, which was officially available to enterprise customers in September 2022, is available to buy. However, you will need to speak to a sale rep to nail down the price. Meanwhile, you learn more at Magicleap.com.
