If you are a rich motoring enthusiast who prefers the good’ol fossil fuel-powered machines that have the regular coupe styling with a 2+2 configuration, i.e. you care more about everyday driving, then you may want to check out the new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe.
The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe is powered by the good old-fashioned 4.0L V8 twin-turbocharged engine (aka V8 Biturbo) with no electric intervention and is available in two trims: GT55 and GT63.
The GT63 packs 577 horses and offers 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, which allows for a century sprint in 3.2 seconds, and a top speed of 196 mph (about 315 km/h). Meanwhile, the GT55 has 469 hp and 519 lb-ft (704 Nm) of torque and makes 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds.
The power is transmitted to the wheels through a wet-clutch 9-speed automatic gearbox and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. The new GT shares much of its mechanicals and technology with the current SL roadster but it obviously looks nothing like it. OK. Maybe a little.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe marks the first time a GT to be equipped with the fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive as standard and wait for it… rear seats. Granted the latter isn’t a standard; it is an option.
If you guess that the rear seats are anything but for a grown person, you’d be right. The rear seats are good for people up to 1.5 meters (4.9 feet) tall. I guess it is good for a young family. But whether or not you choose to go with a 2+2 configuration or not, the new GT does have quite a generous trunk.
The large EASY PACK tailgate includes a hands-free access function that makes loading and unloading easier. The luggage compartment can be expanded using the split folding rear seat backrests if required.
Circling back to the 4MATIC+… it is fully variable which means it can send 100 percent of torque to the rear axle for a rear bias drive experience. Thumbs up for that. Also standard are active aero, active roll stabilization, and active rear-axle steering.
The new GT is built on an underpinning featuring a lightweight composite aluminum structure, steel, magnesium, and fiber composite.
For handling, it has got a double-wishbone suspension front and rear featuring anti-squat, anti-dive control, and hydraulic active anti-roll bars, hydraulically controlled adaptive dampers, 6-pod caliper front, single-pod caliper fear, and it rolls on 20-inch wheels wrapped in 295 and 305 wide tires, front and rear, respectively.
Official pricing has not been revealed yet. In the meantime, you may learn more HERE.
