There were many good anime from the 70s that have been forgotten but I am glad that one of them is finally getting the attention it deserves. I am talking about Science Ninja Team Gatchaman which started in 1972 and went on to rack up 105 episodes, 3 OVAs, and a movie in the two years. Do not confuse this with the U.S. adaptation, Battle of the Planets, which ran from 1978-1980 in the U.S.
Sentai Filmworks has revealed that it will release on Blu-ray Gatchaman: Complete Collection which will cover all episodes, original video animations (OVAs), and movies from 1972 to 1995. The Gatchaman: Complete Collection will include all 105 episodes of the TV series, three OVAs, and Gatchaman: The Movie from 1978, spread across 15 discs which will also include a bunch of extras like clean opening animation, clean closing animations (x2), character profiles, character sketches, episode sketches, galleries, music, interviews, and audition footage. Fans can also expect episode commentaries too.
All told, the Gatchman: Complete Collection packs a whopping 2,880 minutes (48 hours) of content presented in English, and Japanese with English subtitles. The Gatchaman: Complete Collection Blu-ray box set will be released on September 26, 2023, for US$104.99.
Meanwhile, eager fans can secure a copy by pre-ordering it from Amazon.com and Sentai Filmworks. For more details on the release, you may check out the listing on Blu-ray.com.
