Remember the Apple sneakers we told you about in 2016? The pair that surfaced at that time was a prototype and if I can be honest, it was not in the best condition. But we have good news. If you are an Apple devotee with a boatload of money to spare who still wants a pair, you can pick up a pair that is brand new. That’s right. You heard it right. Brand new.
Along with this rare pair of Apple kicks, we believe we may have the official story of it too. Officially dubbed – or at least it is so on Sotheby’s anyways – Apple Inc. Omega Sports Apple Computer Sneakers, this super rare footwear was originally custom-made exclusively for Apple employees as a special giveaway during a National Sales Conference in the mid-1990s. They were never made available publicly.
The predominantly white sneaker is adorned with the iconic rainbow Apple logo on the tongue and the lateral quarter. It has a white leather up and white rubber sole. The Apple Inc. Omega Sports Apple Computer Sneakers are described as “new” and in US size 10.5, and come with an alternative pair of red laces in the box. Yes, it has a box too. Though there are no images of it.
While the shoes are “new in box”, it shoes’ condition is consistent with age and this is especially true for white leather and rubber kicks. Imperfections like yellowing around the midsoles and glue, as well as light marks on the toe boxes, are to be expected.
According to Sotheby’s, “sneakers manufactured 10 years or more before the date of sale may display signs of age and may deteriorate faster with wear.” While that is expected, you certainly won’t want to wear this highly collectible and super rare pair of sneakers, do you? Not especially when it commands a whopping US$50,000 on Sothebys.com where it is being sold.
