The Sony PlayStation Dual Sense Wireless Controller is cool and all but only for normal gamers. Folks with disabilities may not be able to enjoy a regular dual sense controller. Enters Access Controller for PS5. Formerly known as Project Leonardo, Access Controller is designed to remove barriers to gaming and help players with disabilities to play more easily and comfortably, and on their terms.
The controller is unlike anything we have seen. It looks like a UFO with an analog stick. Uniquely bizarre aesthetic aside, Access Controller offers accessibility through a highly-customizable accessibility controller kit. The controller, which was developed in collaboration with accessibility experts, boasts a wide array of a swappable buttons and stick caps that would allow players to freely create different layouts that work for their unique strength, range of motion, and physical needs.
Each Access Controller for PS5 will include the following:
- Analog stick caps (Standard, dome, and ball stick cap)
- Button caps in different shapes and sizes, including:
- Pillow button caps
- Flat button caps
- Wide flat button cap (which covers two button sockets)
- Overhang button caps (which benefit players with smaller hands as they are positioned closer to the center)
- Curve button caps (which can be pushed if placed along the top or pulled if placed along the bottom of the controller)
- Swappable button cap tags for players to easily mark which inputs they map to each button
Moreover, the distance of the analog stick from the controller can be adjusted. Players will be able to use the Access controller on flat surfaces, orient it 360 degrees, or mount it to an AMPS mount or tripod. The controller has four 3.5 mm AUX ports that let players integrate their own specialty switches, buttons, or analog sticks.
