Meizu just revealed its latest flagship series of smartphones, the Meizu 20 Series, along with its version of Android Auto, called Flyme Auto which will work seamlessly with Geely-owned Chinese-Swedish automobile brand Lynk & Co‘s cars. All told, there are three models in this series and they are the Meizu 20 Infinity, Meizu 20 Pro, and Meizu 20.
All three devices are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform paired with LPDDR5X 8533 MHz RAM and UFS 4.0 storage. RAM is 12 GB across the board except for the Infinity which has a 16 GB version. Storage is up to 512 GB for the Meizu 20 and Meizu 20 Pro, and up to 1 TB for the Infinity. So, it is not hard to see that Infinity is leading the pack.
Differentiating the models are the size, display, battery capacity, cameras, and material used. The design language is Apple iPhone 14 meets Samsung Galaxy S23 series. That means a square-off design and individual camera lens instead of a large camera bump.
Meizu 20 Infinity
The range-topper, i.e. the Meizu 20 Infinity, has a variable refresh rate (1-120 Hz) 6.79” 2K+ LTPO “floating” display, and on it, there is a hole punch camera dubbed T-Lens bionic human eye selfie system with a 32 MP sensor.
Around the back, it has a 12 MP 1/2.55” 6P lens 122° super wide-angle camera that does 2.5 cm macro, a 50 MP 1/1.56” 26 mm 7P lens main camera with OIS, and a 12 MP 1/2.93” 50 mm 6P lens telephoto camera with OIS. Rounding up the imaging is a dual-color temperature flash.
The Infinity is near bezel-less with a 91% screen-to-body ratio. The 2.48 mm bezel is almost imperceptible. Though it is not quite the most narrow of the three devices.
Meizu 20 Pro
The Meizu 20 Pro, on the other hand, has a tad larger variable refresh rate (1-120 Hz) 6.81” 2K+ E6 LTPO OLED flexible display and on it, is a 32 MP portrait camera. The display has protection by Corning Gorilla Victus.
The main camera array on the back comprises a 50 MP 15 mm wide-angle portrait camera, a 50 MP 50 mm telephoto camera, and a 50 MP 24 mm main camera with OIS.
It also touts Meizu’s first-generation ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor. It has a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 80 W wired super fast charging and 50 W wireless super fast charging. IR also comes standard.
The Meizu 20 Pro is the only model that supports the UWB car key function. It is the first device in China to be outfitted with CCC 3.0 UWB.
Other notables include NFC, tri-band Beidou, dual-frequency GPS, Bluetooth 5.3, and Wi-Fi 7.
Meizu 20
Finally, there is the entry-level Meizu 20 which is rocking a 144 Hz 6.5” esport flat display featuring gaming mode 6.0 and “esport-grade” enhanced antennae.
The main camera system features a 50 MP 1/1.57” main camera and a 16 MP 122° super wide-angle camera. Around the front, there is a 32 MP hole-punch selfie camera.
Other notables include Meizu’s first-generation ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, Wi-Fi 7, and a 4,700 mAh battery that supports 67 W wired supercharge, and 65 W PD fast charge. It looks like it does not have wireless charging.
All three devices are outfitted with dToF (Direct Time-of-Flight) sensor.
The Meizu 20 and Meizu 20 Pro will go on sale in China on April 03, 2023, with a starting price of 2,999 yuan [CH] (about US$436) and 3,999 yuan [CH] (US$582), respectively. Pre-orders for these two models are being taken as we speak.
The Meizu 20 Infinity has no set date of release yet but the device, which has a starting price of 6,299 yuan [CH] (approx. US$916), is available for reservation.
