If sleeping on a 650 Gallon Fish Tank Aquarium Bed is not giving you the immersive experience of “sleeping with the fishes” (note: not the Italian mafia’s way), then perhaps you would like to pack your bags and head to the Maldives, specifically, the Rangali Island and even more specific, The Muraka.
The Muraka, which is part of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island owned by Hilton Worldwide, open its doors in 2018 to become the world’s first underwater hotel suite. It is a villa unlike no other. It is the only place in the world where you could literally live underwater since after the one time Airbnb offered guests to sleep with the sharks.
Anyhoo, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is located on the picturesque South Ari Atoll accessible only by a 30-minute seaplane flight or a short domestic flight to a nearby island, followed by a speedboat transfer. Thankfully, guests do not have to plan the getting there themselves.
All the guest need to do is to book the stay and book the international flight, then provide the details and travel plans to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island and they will do the rest.
Located in a private area of the shimmering lagoon, the suite is a two-story architecture out in the open water. While it appears to be a single floor over the water, the rest of the suite is, well, 16.4 feet (5 meters) below sea level aka where the fun is.
The suite features 3 bedrooms and integrated living, dining, and entertaining spaces, and your stay will be accompanied by a 24-hour private butler service and tailored experiences.
Above the water is where you will find the living and dining areas, along with two bedrooms, a bathroom with an ocean-facing tub, and an outdoor deck with an infinity pool.
The underwater section, which is accessible via a spiral staircase or elevator, is the private underwater aquarium featuring a master bedroom with a 180-degree curved acrylic dome, floor-to-ceiling windows in the bathroom and walk-in closet, and a dedicated tunnel viewing theater.
And how much would such luxury cost? Well, we heard The Muraka starts at, wait for it, US$50,000 a night plus taxes. Yikes.
