Munro MK_1: Off-road, 4-Wheel-Drive EV For Farming, Construction, And More

While you are waiting for the semi-autonomous electric ATV from Cake to materialize, you may want to look to the Munro MK_1 All-electric 4×4 from Scotland’s only volume production car company Munro Vehicles if you want to realize a minimal environmental footprint sooner on your farm, or just about anywhere that requires some serious off-road performance.

The Munro MK_1, which made its public debut at the Low Carbon Agriculture 2023 show at NAEC Stoneleigh on Tuesday (February 08, 2023), is an ultra-utilitarian and explicitly user-focused electric vehicle is offered in three trims: Utility, Range, and Performance.

The Performance model is powered by a 280 kW (375 hp) electric powertrain paired with a “proven, robust, simple-to-maintain mechanical driveline” comprising a two-speed central transfer case with a locking differential and a permanent mechanical four-wheel drive.

The electric powertrain turns out a healthy 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque that enables this unusually square-looking but no less sleek EV to carry up to 1,000 kilograms (2,205 lbs) and a towing capacity of 3,500 kilograms (7,716 lbs).

It has a max road speed of just 129 km/h (80 mph) and while it does not to be quick, it has very impressive acceleration, getting from naught to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds.

Other off-road capabilities include an 84° approach angle and 800 mm 2.62 feet) wading depth. And oh, it also benefits from Upol Raptor Paint protection as a standard that will shrug off small knocks and scrapes. The paint and the angular form, along with the quad-LED headlamp array do give the vehicle a military vibe.

The Munro MK_1 has a range of 190 miles (306 km) or up to 16 hours of operation on a single charge. Not the best but considering what it should suffice for construction, mining, environmental, and emergency rescue, which it is designed for.

Priced from £59,994 (Inc. VAT), the Munro MK_1 All-electric 4×4 can be reserved now. The first deliveries of the Founders Edition will start this year (2023). Series production will start in 2024.
