Redmagic 8 Pro Gaming Smartphone Has The Fastest Chip And Memories There Are Today

Another year, another Redmagic gaming smartphone. If I can be honest, the new Redmagic 8 Pro Gaming Smartphone could be the prettiest Redmagic device to date. I may be biased because I am never and never will be a fan of curved designs, whether it is the screen or the back.

The latest Redmagic has a straightedge design that reminds us of the Razer Phone 2. It has, as the product page described, a “simple and futuristic design.” On the spec sheet, expect nothing but the best and that includes Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform, up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 512 GB UFS 4.0 – the fastest chip and memory there are today.

It has a truly uninterrupted edge-to-edge display, coming in at 6.8 inches. The display, which is an FHD+ (2,480 by 1,116 pixels) AMOLED item, offers up to 120 Hz refresh rate, 960 Hz touch sampling rate, 1300 nits of max brightness, and 100% DCI-P color gamut, and like the Redmagic 7 Pro, it too has under-display-camera (UDC).

Hidden under the display is a 16 MP 2nd-generation UDC with 1.12μm and f2.0. Speaking of imaging, it has a tri-camera at the rear comprising a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP wide angle, and a dedicated 2 MP macro camera.

This being a gaming-focused device it boasts a number of gaming-specific features, including the Red Core gaming chip, capacitive shoulder trigger buttons that tout 520 Hz touch sampling rate, a button that toggles special game models on or off known as Game Space Switch, and customizable RGB light.

Keeping everything chill while you are gaming is an ICE 11 Multi-Dimensional Cooling System, a 10-layer cooling system, featuring a turbofan that spins at 20,000 RPM, a cooling duct, and a bunch of other cooling measures like aircraft-grade aluminum alloy, super soft high-heat conductivity rare earth, graphene under the screen, composite graphene, copper foil under the screen, super thermal conductivity copper foil, and high thermal conductivity gel, and double layer VC liquid cooling plate.

Other spec-sheet details include the usual suite of sensors, amplified sounds on each end of the phone, USB 3.1 port with Type-C interface, dual nano SIM slot, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and 6,000 mAh dual-cell battery that supports 65W charging with the included 65W GaN quick charger.

The new Redmagic 8 Pro is offered in two finishes: Matte (12+256 GB) and Void, which is half-transparent (16+512 GB). North America availability is not known. Though we noted that the Matte model is listed for US$649 and the Void for US$799 on the Redmagic global website.
