McLaren Applied’s LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter: E-scooter Takes The Luxury Sports Car Route

McLaren’s engineering arm, McLaren Applied, has set up a new micro-mobility company. Called LAVOIE, it is a premium mobility brand that aims to redefine urban mobility through motorsport and luxury automotive engineering. So, it is not just slapping on a motor on any old skatescooter.

And you know McLaren Applied is serious about making the best electric scooter when it has a team that includes mobility entrepreneurs Eliott Wertheimer and Albert Nassar, and Formula 1 engineer Richard Clarke helming the engineering team. The first product from LAVOIE is the LAVOIE Series 1 Electric Scooter. Not a lot is known about this upcoming premium standup e-scooter.

However, we know that it is an e-scooter built to supercar standards and featuring innovations never seen before – including LAVOIE’s patented one-touch Flowfold™ folding mechanism inspired by the suspension of racing machines at the pinnacle of motorsport. A single press of a button folds the front and rear wheel hinges and collapses the stem.

It will boast an automotive-standard magnesium construction and tips the scales at just, making it easy to carry into offices, meetings, and homes. We also know that a two-hour charge on a domestic three-pin plug offers up to 31 miles (50 km) of range.

LAVOIE Series 1 rolls on large and wide tires that are capable of absorbing and withstanding portholes and bumps. The e-scooter will have lights all around – including floodlights on the side of the deck to emphasize the real estate of the e-scooter on the road and therefore, more visible to other road users. Indicators, which are activated from the ergonomic handlebars, also come standard.

Finally, it is app-enabled. Using a bespoke app, you will be able to track the precise location of the Series 1, activate a loud deterrent alarm, enables integrated turn-by-turn navigation, and access in-depth stats and ride customization.

But those are pretty standard for some of today’s high-end e-scooter. What is not common or standard is the ability for the app to inform the LAVOIE support team of any electronic faults or issues, and notify the owner immediately, activating the necessary steps to resolve the issue. Hmmm, why does it sound so much like an automobile?
