Casey Putsch’s Turbine-powered 1989 Batmobile To Go Under The Hammer

We already told you what you need to know about the world’s first and only turbine-powered 1989 Batmobile built by Casey Putsch of Putsch Racing 11 years ago in 2011. Fast forward to 2022, Casey’s replica of the Batmobile from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman remains the one and only that is turbine-powered.

Being turbine-powered, this real-life 1989 Batmobile is even more real than the prop car which was essentially an electric car. Putsch’s creation is powered by a Boeing jet engine from a military helicopter that produces 365 horsepower which is put to good use at the rear wheels via a 2-speed semi-automatic transmission.

This vehicle may be a behemoth but the turbine power lends it a pretty impressive acceleration. It will take just 3.9 seconds for it to make naught to 69 mph (97 km/h). It has a top speed of 185 mph (298 km/h).

However, being a turbine-powered vehicle, there is not so much fuel economy to talk about. It guzzles 78-24L per 100 km or 3-10 miles per gallon. Thankfully, in addition to jet fuel and kerosene, it can also run on diesel. Anyhoo, enough of the recap. Now for the good news.

This Batmobile is still looking for a cape crusader to pilot, or just any car collector or Bat fan who is willing to drop the dough. Casey Putsch’s Turbine-powered 1989 Batmobile will go on the block at the Scottsdale 2023 sale (Lot #1324) organized by Barrett-Jackson from January 21-29, 2023.
