I am sure we are familiar with the concept of a golf rangefinder. It is used by golfers to measure the distance of a particular shot, gauge the slope, as well as find the distance between the golfer and the green, for example. It measures the distance between the user and the target. But not this laser rangefinder though.
Meet the R2G Mate1, the world’s first golf laser rangefinder that lets a third person measure the distance of the shot by a golfer, the distance between a golfer and the green, and more. This means that if a friend is making the swing, you can even make out the distance as a bystander.
I don’t know what kind of scenarios would require a third party to want to know the distance. Perhaps a golfing coach? I don’t know.
Anyhoo, R2G Mate1 can do so quicker than a blink of an eye. When measuring within 120 meters (394 feet/131 yards), it can churn out the distance in mere 0.05 seconds. R2G said that the devices employ so-called G-Technology sensor fusion composite technology and G-algorithm technology to achieve accuracy and speed of measurement.
The laser rangefinder has three modes of operation: Approach mode, Pin mode, and Slope mode. In Approach mode, it acquires distance within 100 meters and presents it nearest to one decimal.
The Pin mode which measures the distance to the closest flagstick when two or more Pins are detected in the line of sight, even if there are other objects, such as trees or rocks, behind the pin.
And then, there is the Slope mode, which displays the corrected distance accounting for the difference in elevation from point to point.
The device is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, good for 20,000 measurements before needing to be recharged. The battery is non-removable and recharged via the built-in USB Type-C port.
The R2G Mate1 is a product of a Korean startup, R2G. It is now marketing the device in Japan through the Japan crowdfunding platform Makuake where residents in Japan can secure a unit for a super early bird price of 31,984 yen (about US$234). It is also being sold in Korea at a 25% discount, at 269,000 won (around US$200).
