Soundbar is a dime a dozen. If the brand name and aesthetic are high on your criteria for a soundbar – in addition to audio performance, of course, then you may want to check out the new Porsche Design Soundbar PDB90. The Porsche Design Soundbar PDB90 is a 5.1.2 soundbar with an integrated subwoofer, Dolby Atmos, and DTS-X that promise to transform your home cinema into a sound experience.
While most Dolby Atmos soundbars have simulated upfiring speakers or upward-facing speakers, the Porsche Design Soundbar PDB90 has two rotating speakers that emit sound upwards and move into the perfect position when receiving the signal. So, it is not just another Dolby Atmos soundbar.
It also an HDMI eARC-compatible soundbar which means a single cable eliminates the need for additional composite audio or optical cable. Plus it gets a boost in bandwidth and speed, allowing for high-quality audio to be sent from your TV to the soundbar. In addition to HDM eARC, it also has Bluetooth connectivity, USB, as well as an optical input.
The soundbar further offers 4 preset modes for an optimal sound environment, and 4K pass-through for connecting consoles and more. For a person as superficial as myself, the first thing that draws me to it was the aesthetic which is a cloth cover design with polished aluminum inlay.
It is worth noting that this soundbar is on the chunky side. It stretches 1200 mm (3.9’ or 47”) wide – which is almost as long as a typical 55-inch flat-screen TV – and is 88 mm (3.5”) high and 210 mm (8.3”) deep. This means you will need a sizeable TV so that this little big guy will not block the TV and ruin the aesthetic of the TV.
Thankfully, it supports placement on the console as well as wall-mounted. However, this soundbar ain’t light. It is hefty, in fact, weighing in at a beefy 8,690g, or 8.69 kilograms, or 19 pounds.
The Porsche Design Soundbar PDB90 can be had now as we speak for US$1,199.
