Some people collect classic cars and then there are who collect cars that are disassembled. If you are the latter, well, good news because the 1950 Aston Martin DB2 which is on sale at RM Sotheby’s comes disassembled. Yup. Exactly as what you see in the photos here.
It sure felt like it is a classic kit car but obviously, it isn’t. In fact, it is not just any other DB2. It was the first-ever production DB2, one of the first 49 so-called “washboard” cars. Not to be confused with “washboard” roads, a back road phenomenon, “washboard” DB2s are so named because of the three-piece front grille and large vents behind the front wheels.
It is a very special car not because is not whole; it was used by David Brown prior to sale and the first Aston Martin to race in the Sebring 12 Hours – in addition to having raced in other noteworthy events over the East Coast of the United States.
As you can see, the 1950 Aston Martin DB2 is offered as a restoration project and as such, it is on a chassis jig with areas of corrosion addressed, and ready for priming and painting.
It comes with the vast majority of its correct parts, including all of its brightwork, retrimmed seats, rebuilt brakes, a correct DB2 engine, gearbox, and differential (all of which have been rebuilt), and a bunch of other parts ready to be reassembled together.
Also included with the sale is an extensive history file with countless invoices for work and parts.
If anyone’s down in having a go at restoring this classic, you’d be looking at a £250k investment. You can inquire/make an offer HERE.
