Hot on the heels of the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-56 Trailbreaker announcement is yet another Takara Tomy Transformers figure, the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-57 Skyfire/Jetfire. Being a fan of G1 Transformers, I got to say this is long overdue.
Notwithstanding its limited appearance, Skyfire/Jetfire is one of the most iconic characters from the G1 cartoon continuity. It is also a character embroiled in many legal issues.
The new Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-57 Skyfire Figure is a faithful re-creation of its G1 cartoon appearance. At around 35 cm (13.8 inches) (including the backpack), this figure is the largest Masterpiece yet.
Consistent with the Masterpiece line, the MP-57 has high playability and display options, especially when it is in its alternate mode which is a fighter cargo jet.
The jet mode boasts cool features like deployable landing gear, opening cockpit, opening belly cargo door, opening hatch, and the ability to transform into a jet with legs and jet with arms modes as seen in the cartoon series.
As a robot, it promised high posability, a swappable chest plate, along with accessories like a magnetic battle mask and Jetfire/Skyfire iconic double-barrel blaster, along with a pair of effect parts.
In addition to the battle mask, it has two swappable faces, a chest plate without a logo, an Autobot chest plate, a Decepticon chest plate, a flight stand, and three non-transformable, miniature figures of Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, and Jazz, maybe? I am not too sure about the last one. The image is too small. I guess I am not so much of a superfan.
The Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-57 Skyfire Figure is scheduled to arrive in the market in January 2023 for 38,500 yen (around US$296). Meanwhile, some toy retailers are already taking pre-orders.
